For some reason smoke alarms always tend to go off for no reason in the middle of the night. Its annoying we know. If theres no smoke or fire there are a few reasons it may be beeping.
First, press & hold the reset button in the middle of the alarm for 15-20 seconds, then release. Wait a couple of minutes and listen for the beeping to start up again.
If it doesn’t start again then its fixed & you’re good to go. If it does start beeping again there’s something else going on.
Depending on your alarm & if its hard wired or not the reasons could include:
- Dead or dying battery
- Dust settling onto sensors
- Old or broken alarm
If you’ve determined its not the battery, try using a vacuum or small brush to remove any dust build up in & around the alarm. Be sure to turn power off to hard wired smoke alarms at the circuit box. Replace the face of the alarm, turn power back on & wait a few minutes to see if it starts beeping again.
We hope this is helpful & if you continue to have issues with your alarms get in touch today, we’d be happy to help.
